WK3 Capstone Blog:

The Texas State Teachers Association employs me as an “Organizing Developmental Specialist,” and part of my job description is to provide “Professional Development Courses” for the teachers within our association. If I had to choose between technology, and innovation in the workplace, it would be the implementation of technology. I would use Udutu.

Udutu is an online course-authoring tool used to build interactive quizzes; complex assignment; and all major types of graphic, sound, and video formats optimize automatically for web delivery. For example, a robust multimedia corporate training, and development program can be up and running in 3 to 4 weeks. The authoring tool also extracts a .zip file that integrates seamlessly with SCORM compliant LMS, and most of all it can be done with no technical knowledge. (Udutu Community Forums)

Another feature of Udutu is “Udutu Teach,” which allows you to import courses from myUdutu into Facebook and other Social Networks as Learning Management Systems (LMS, LCMS) and retain all the rich communication and scheduling tools that these applications offer. (Udutu Community Forums)

Lastly, the software can be used an eLearning solution. Training programs can be customized and delivered on-site to meet training needs. Udutu will provide:
1.     Operations Training
2.     Regulatory Training
3.     Performance Management

The implementation of Udutu into our workplace would make training so much easier and efficient; thus cutting the cost of training in the field and the Home Office.

Udutu is a great Web Site to gain information about Udutu online course authoring. (www.udutu.com/products.html)

     I.         Web 2.0 ToolThe Web 2.0 tool that I have chosen for this RILS is iGoogle, which is a product of Google http://www.igoogle.com. This tool allows users to personalize their homepage, search for websites, images, videos, news articles, maps and more. In addition, Google offers High-quality web services along with Gmail. Google’s e-mail service delivers full integration with the company’s online web services. Lastly, if speed is a key factor, with Google you are able to get to your homepage, type in a query and get to a destination as quickly as possible. A new user to Google will not have any trouble navigating and searching on Google since Google keeps the focus on search results.

II.         Social Participation/Social LearningParticipant will meet bi-weekly to create a culture around collaborative sharing as we continue to build our homepage on iGoogle, by adding gadgets that will increase our communication. Each participant will demonstrate a gadget that would work within our community. We will make group decisions on which gadgets will be used. For example, the naming of our links. Etc.

 III.         Making Connections
Learners will:
a)   Connect previous terminology used in Microsoft products in order to create new knowledge by working through each step provided in the instructions to create their iGoogle homepage. From their creations they will be able to see how they can enhance their communication skills.
b)   Connect with something relevant to them by learning a new and better way to link, and communicate with co-worker through the Internet.
c)    Connect with local or global audience, the learner will review and share their homepage to demonstrate their uniqueness and what they shared alike.

    I.         Create/ProduceThe learner will produce an iGoogle homepage. They will collaborate and share their finished product.

  II.         Assessment –
Each colleague (Field Staff) will demonstrate what they have created and designed on their iGoogle home-page. For example, tabs, gadgets, links and a theme of their choice.

III.         Reflection –
Learner Reflection –
a.    Take a brief survey designed to compare prior knowledge with gained knowledge.
b.    Share the challenges they experienced as they went step-by-step through the lesson.

Educator/Trainer Reflection will –
a.    Evaluate the whole project from beginning to end so that I can improve the content and delivery of the lesson.
b.    Learners will evaluate the instructor and presentation of the lesson by completing a brief evaluation form.

CSI ADDIE

Three articles discussing the ADDIE Model:

Slideshare: The ADDIE Instructional Design Model

BP3 Picfull

I chose the photo-editing tool because in my professional environment, I am required to upload pictures that I take in the field to our Intranet.  The tool that I chose is Picfull. Picfull is a photo-editing tool used to do quick editing to pictures, drawings, or any image that you would like to share on Facebook, Twitter, or Email.

According to Wikipedia Image editing encompasses the processes of altering images, whether they are digital photographs, traditional analog photographs, or illustrations.

As I stated above, Picfull is a quick editing tool.

Now I will share the process of editing a picture that I uploaded to Picfull. Logging on to Picfull was quite easy. Below you find a list of six steps I used to create my image.

Clicks continue to site. In this section you will review examples of photo filters.

2.     Click edit your photo now

3.     Choose photo, the photo will display in a window to the right
4.     Click save
5.     Choose an effect, you have 16 effects to choose from for editing. Each effect has a fade, contract vignette, gamma color 1, 2, or 3 for editing color. The colors are used to change the color, and background of your picture. When you find a feature that you like click save.
6.     Save and you are ready to upload photo to your favorite site.

Remember the Picfull editing tool is only six steps; therefore, you do not have access to the best editing software. Editing tools are evaluated by the number of available editing tools, which determines the overall capabilities. The more tools you have the more choices and possibilities you have to edit your picture.

BP4 Google Docs Essentials Training

I chose Google Docs as my Web 2.0 for this assignment so that I could learn more about the product and incorporate it into my work environment.

I found a training course through Lynda .com entitled “Google Docs Essentials Training” by Susan Cline.  This course has given me a better understanding of the subject matter. For example, I am now able to compare “Google Docs” with Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office has great presentation power in creating documents versus Google Docs active collaboration tools. Although, they are both great Web 2.0 tools, I favor Google Docs for the purpose below:

·      When collaborating, you are able to share, create and edit documents online.
·      Co-Editing with Google Docs spreadsheet, you can see the cells other people are editing.
·      Control over who can share documents
The online Presence Google Docs offer is extremely important in my work environment. For example, the online collaboration between groups is outstanding. In any learning environment whether doing class assignments, or class notes. The User – generated content such as feedback, authenticity is a great.  The Social Participation provided by “Google Docs” help promote group work because of the sharing between apps. This is a feature I can use professionally when I need to communicate between co-workers.

Now in this part of my assignment, I am going to share the process used to upload existing files into “Google Docs.” I know that this sounds simple, but for me it was a large task. In the future, I will move on to harder task.  The process was very easy. The steps I used are recorded below. I have also posted my steps in creating this process below:

1.     On the Google Docs interface click the feature upload. This will take you to your files.
2.     Click files and choose the file you want to use
3.     Go to the uploading setting and click start upload
4.     The file will upload and appear in the Google Doc Window as Upload Completed.

Overall, I have increased my knowledge on “Google Docs,” and how this Web 2.0 tool can help change my professional environment.

Below, I have included screenshots of my process using one of the “Google Docs “ features.

PE4 Quick Time Player

PE4 – Week 3 RILS RESEARCH

I used QuickTime Player as my Web 2.0 tool to record my first recording. My first choice was Screen Flow; however, I do not have access to the tool at this time.

From the first assignment until now, I am able to see the big picture. I feel that my skills are developing between each assignment. For example, during this assignment, I wanted to know more about creating a screen flow, so I called support to see where I might find the tool, and that was how I found with the QuickTime Player.

The first time I used QuickTime Player, I had a hard time coordinating the pointer with what I wanted to say.  As you view the screen flow, you will see the lack of control with the pointer. In my next screen flow, I hope to control this step.

PE5 – W3 – RILS Researchhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixdXvMs3UV8

I used QuickTime Player for this assignment.

I added sound to this assignment by using the built-in microphone in QuickTime Player.  As you will see after viewing this video, I need a lot of practice with this tool.

This assignment taught me that I should view each procedure, and practice what I want to say before attempting to video

BP4 Google Docs Essentials Training:

W2- Blogging – 3 Post

For this assignment, we were asked to find a Web 2.0 tool, which should be something that we would like to explore and use with our Capstone Project or within my environment. PE3 _ iMovie

Marita's iMovie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvLopzpkK4I

Although, I had to view many videos and spend more than three hours viewing the lessons, the assignment was fun! I learned so much more than I expected.

Because iMove '11 Essential training was so much fun, I created a 'Trailer' using the same footage just to get the experience.

Below you will find the link to the 'Trailer"

PE2 _ iMovie

During my second session, I viewed the videos on Organizing Clips, and Editing Video. In this section, the people finder feature stood out the most for me. I was amazed on this feature automatically sought out the faces of people in the video. I will use this feature, for it is a "great way to find footage."

Organizing Clips "People Finder"

The last features viewed in the next videos were: Working with Effects, Audio, and Sharing Your Movies. In this section, I learned how to upload video to YouTube and Vimeo.  Before I viewed the video, I thought this process would very hard and time consuming; however, the feature was very user friendly. Now it is time to work.!

W2-Practical Experience – iMovie

Marita Excited about iMovie

In this assignment, I will illustrate my learning through three-blog post. Also, I have included screen shots and a video embed of my own iMovie creation.

We were asked to view the iMovie ’11 Essential Training in three one-hour sessions. However, because of my job duties, I was not able to view the videos in the requested format.

My first impression of this assignment was why would our instructor assign a tool so advance. I had never  thought about using iMovie, or any video-editing tool at this level. Moreover, I do not own a camera or video recorder, so one would say, I am a bit behind the times.

In my first session, I was able to view the videos: Getting Started, Importing Video, and Understanding the Interface.  After viewing the video on the interface, I realized that iMovie was user friendly and
operated from one pane, which is split into several sections.   I have listed them below:
·      Project Pane on the top left
·      Tool bar in the middle
·      Events at the bottom
·      No save button- iMovie will save automatically

In addition, under the Importing Video section, the tool used to capture live action stood out for me since this was the only way for me to incorporate video for the assigned lesson.
